Are there parts of the trail that are currently closed? I saw somewhere (can't remember) that a bridge was out near Oakdale but wanted to see if anyone can confirm. Also- any information or reports you can share about the trail having closures between Valentine and Norfolk would be very helpful. Thank you!!

Yes there are a couple of short detours no longer than 3 miles in spots where the trail is close to the highway. They've been there for as long as I've been doing the trail, so at least 9 years. The highway has a nice wide shoulder, and most of the drivers that I've encountered over the years are awesome, with probably the greatest share of them moving over to the opposite lane if possible, even though I've got the wide shoulder. The trail is in great condition other than occasionally the gravel is a bit on the thick side. GREAT trail!!

Thanks, Doug. Are the detours only near Oakdale or in other places as well? Sounds like any time the trail is "closed"/detour, the road is visible and it's easy to transition to the road and then back to the trail. Is that right?

Seems like there's one between Clearwater and Neligh, and another between Neligh and Oakdale. Transitions are pretty straightforward. Enjoy your ride. It's an adventure!
