The Cowboy Trailis on my bucket list.
Are there hotels, ‘mom & pop’ motels, air b&bs or bed and breakfast spots in each town along the trail? If so do they accommodate cyclist? I would carry all my personal gear but no camping. Also, I would eat in restaurants.

Kevin, there are decent places to stay in most towns along the trail and they are all cyclist friendly. Use the Trip Planner button on the Cowboy Trail homepage to build a route guide for the sections you will ride. It lists both lodging and restaurants. Check out the D&B Cafe in Ainsworth and the H&H Cafe in Emmett.

There are normal hotels on the ends in Valentine and Norfolk. There are B&B’s in some little towns and cities. There are mom and pop motels too along the trail. My husband and I haven’t ridden it yet but done lots of research.
I’m sure riders that live near the trail will way in and tell you more about where you can stay besides camping.
You can stay at normal hotels and do out and back rides if the prettiest parts of the trail too.

Hi Kevin:

Not a mom and pop, but the Rodeway Inn in Ainsworth is nice. Just down the trail in Long Pine, the Pines in Nebraska is unique. There is a young couple restoring 1920s vintage cabins. They are very comfortable and in a beautiful little spot. There is a bar in Long Pine with good food. No groceries in Long Pine. There is a nice grocery store in downtown Ainsworth just 7 miles west of Long Pine.

Be sure to stop at the Newport Pool Hall. It is right on the trail. Snacks and drinks available.

In Wood Lake our friend that rode with us found a nice VBRO which we used for several nights. There are likely other VBROs along the way.

The Sandhills Guest House in Atkinson is very nice, reasonably priced and near to the trail. Highly recommend!
